46yo woman is paralyzed after a rough sex session

A rough lovemaking session left a 46-year-old paralyzed after she was ‘catapulted’ from the super king sized bed, the London High Court has heard. Claire Busby from Maidenhead, Berks, suffered the severe spinal injury as she was changing sexual positions, the court was told.

The mother of four who appeared in court in a wheelchair claimed the ill-fated bed was in a ‘defective state’ at the time of her accident and is indeed seeking a seven-figure damages compensation from the supplier, Berkshire Bed Company, trading as Beds Are Uzzz.

The main bone of contention is whether the bed was defective and whether that could have contributed to the accident and subsequent injuries, presiding Judge Barry Cotter QC said.

The bed in question was one of five delivered to Miss Busby in 2013 when she was renovating her house. Miss Busby used to work in the property sector and suffered the injuries a few days after the beds were delivered. The supplying company has since denied liability and has been sued for $1.6 million.

Changing positions

Miss Busby told the court that she was kneeling in the middle of the bed performing a sexual act on her partner, a certain John Marshall when she decided to change positions and ‘swung her legs’ from underneath her before she lay back on the bed. It is at that point where she claims the bed gave way, and she toppled off the end, landing on her head.

I spun around, I put my hand down and then I felt like I was catapulted off the back of the bed,” she said. “My head hit the floor, I fell to the side, and I heard like a spring in my body snap.

Busby’s sister, Natalie Busby, told the court that she visited the property following the accident and found that ‘two legs’ were missing from the bed. She added that she could not have discussed the matter with her sister at that time owing to the bad state she was in.

Claire wasn’t in any fit state to be having a conversation,’ she said. ‘At one point she had two heart attacks in 24 hours. It was touch and go whether she was going to make it.’

She claimed that the two divans that made up the base of the bed were not properly fastened together and two ‘gliders’ – or feet – were missing from one end of the bed. This created a height difference between one end and the other.

Her lawyer, Winston Hunter, said that Busby expected the mattress to support her weight but instead, it kept moving backward and downwards.

Addressing the court, he said:  ‘The point at which she left the bed is precisely the location where the different height of the two divans was at its maximum. It represented the area where the mattress was most likely to “fall away” as it was partially unsupported.

According to Hunter, the height difference was around 40mm. He added that while it was ‘accepted that the particular circumstances of the accident are unusual’ it was enough for there to have been ‘some foresight of some loss of balance in the use of the bed’ for the supplier to be held liable.

Lawyers representing the bed company argued that the bed was properly assembled at the time of delivery and even if two feet were missing from the bed as claimed by the victim, it still would not have been enough to make her fall in the manner she told the court.

Neil Block QC, representing the firm, said: “It is overwhelmingly likely that whatever her actions, they were too close to the edge of the bed and she simply lost balance and toppled backwards.

The case continues.

This is not the first time a woman has suffered injuries during sex.  Another British woman from Birmingham felt an excruciating headache after having sex with her husband in 2012 which ultimately left her paralyzed. Lucinda Allen was six months pregnant at the time of the incident in which she suffered a brain hemorrhage and was subsequently placed on induced coma after suffering several strokes.

Doctors established that Allen had suffered from a bout of a thunderclap headache which affects women during and after sex. According to Allen, a congenital abnormality in a blood vessel led to her a lifetime of headaches following sex, but on that fateful day, the pain she felt was unlike anything she had experienced before.

It’s normally a bit like brain freeze and never lasts long, but this time it didn’t go away, and soon I was writhing in agony,” Allen told British tabloid newspaper The Mirror.

Doctors tried their best to relieve pressure on her brain, but the five strokes she suffered left her paralyzed on the left side.  The pain and suffering notwithstanding, Allen somehow gave birth to a healthy baby girl in November 2012.

Nobody talks about post-orgasm head pain,” she says, “That’s understandable. But I want to raise awareness of how it can be a warning sign.”

Finally

The above injuries may be totally unrelated, but they both occurred during sex, leaving the victims nursing severe injuries.  Perhaps someone needs to teach people on how to mind their safety during their time between the sheets?
