How much of the internet is porn?

While there have been way too many theories cutting across this discussion for years on end, nobody really knows how much porn is on the entire web. I know this might have caught you by surprise but then, how can you ascertain the content of a particular industry if it cannot; verify how much it’s general proprietors aka sites make for a start or better still how many social media accounts contain pornographic content. Again, there is no way of establishing just how often downloaded content gets shared across social media, which makes this whole topic abyss like. With the truth being that every dawn will always sprout forth a new angle to be explored, from consumer’s demographic tallies all the way to confused Google searches.

Well, am not trying to discourage those who have made it their life mission to ‘explore just how much of the internet is porn’ but what am trying to say is that porn could be a trend. It might have been a discrete or taboo subject in the 20th century where the closest you could get to erotic materials was magazines such as ‘Playboy,’ but times have changed now. And whether we are scared over porn being a click away and entirely accessible to teenagers and minors is another issue altogether. Because frankly speaking, there may be even less than 10% of the world that is actively involved in the Industry, including the live cam models.

There is a possibility that the fear of porn taking over the internet is actually real. And this might be as a result of our minds being corrupted by our having been down that road. We’ve converted almost everything once upon a time innocent to become an item of objectification. Like people can’t just admire each other’s feet without being labeled fetish or worse innocent kids typos being ingeniously linked to porno sites. See? My point is that; people are often afraid of shit they can’t control porn being one of them and there might not be as much porn as you would imagine with the painful truth being that we have watched excess of it to the extent that’s it’s an invisible highly contagious cancer among us that we must at least quit complaining about and try finding ways to keep it from affecting our lives.

The breakthrough of online porn

Mark this date right; June 26, 1997, is when the US Supreme Court struck down the Communications Decency Act for violating the First Amendment. Basically shielding the porn moguls from government censorship opening a major window for the flooding of porn across the entire web. Which reminds me of the comical words of Dave Barry; “this fast-growing billion-dollar industry will undoubtedly come up with newer and better ways to help losers whack off.” Recently we just transitioned from VR porn and are headed for sex Holograms, what can I say? Here we are bitches, and you better get used to it because online porn is going nowhere today or even tomorrow!

A look into the most popular sites on the internet?

The love for free porn is at most incomprehensible with the most popular site in the world, Pornhub reporting an increase of 5 Billion users in 2018 to a total of 33.5 Billion users currently with daily over a million visits. Well, whether we like it or not, this is a clear indication of how much pervasive the society has become. And the rise of webcam sites like Live Jasmin as well as fkdpanda signifies the dawn of an even more thrilling trend; most people today are into strippers and live performers perhaps because they can actually interact with them giving them naughty commands almost like sex robots or something. Food for thought, huh?

Amusing people’s say over porn

Truth is maybe concerned parents, and morally upright institutions are the ones hugely trying to bring down the industry because it’s not everyone complaining about it. For instance, there was the grumbling over Tumblr packing porn out of their site at the beginning of this year. While sites like; BuzzFeed and Twitter are, on the other hand working towards normalizing it. Maybe before judging them, you should try reading what aspects some Twitter users pointed out to as why they love porn.

“The inhumane alluring aspects of porn like; Porn doesn’t text back slow, porn respects the pussy fuck and gives you what you ask.”

“There is the love for trippers, camgirls, and Pornstars.”

“There are always happy endings.”

“It provides a distraction say; when it pop-ups during a boring class.”

“Twitter provides all under one roof from networking to some bitchy porn making it an even fun corner.”

An overview of statistics in porn consumption

While it might be true that pornography actually hurts adults, children, couples, families, and the society at large. Adolescents are the most affected, with pornography hindering a healthy development of their sexuality, and even worse distorting sexual attitudes and social realities among adults, resulting to marital dissatisfaction, infidelity, separation, and divorces among couples.

The reality of pornographic consumption today can be summarized as below;

  • Porn sites now receive more regular traffic that Twitter, Netflix or even Amazon combined with eleven sites being among the top 300 most popular sites across the web
  • Young people are increasingly accessing porn, endangering themselves for sexual harassment, becoming morally corrupted or even worse being easily lured into the industry with the existing sudden rise of child pornography as well as the camshows’ money heist.
  • The internet is increasing becoming unsafe with all sorts of pornographic ads and pop-ups plus suggestive uncensored searches, almost as if every fucking playful word is the name of a certain porn site.

Can the porn industry really be tamed?

The porn industry, just like every other consumption industry, provides whatever the consumers demand. Meaning that if there is a rise in the search for incest porn or even porn parodies that’s exactly what they will produce more to keep their market happy. Which brings me to the fact that; users hold the key to whether their business continues booming from a large consumption which necessitates expansion or reduced consumption which will in return force them to stick to the shadows. I’ll tell you what? While it’s possible to actually choose either of the paths, it’s basically next to impossible to get even if not all but most of the world to go for the second option.

Conclusion

Porn might be a constant figurative thought in the society but instead of anticipating how much of the Internet porn is perhaps the question should actually be; just how much have we let it intrude our day to day lives?
