No More VOD Porn At The Hilton!

No More VOD Porn at the Hilton!

Commonly, when good ol’ red blooded adults stay hat hotels you can count on two things:

1) Going home with a free pen or maybe even a free towel if you’re ballsy enough

and,

2) When you check out you’ll probably need to fess up to the porn movie charges from the night before.

If you’re staying at the Hilton, your experience my change abruptly (don’t worry, I’m sure you can still make out with a new towel). The hotel chain recently announced that they will be removing the adult video-on-demand (VOD) services from their hotels.  No exact timeline has been specified so get your fill while the gettin’ is good!

This move is actually nothing new for the Hilton hotel chain, and brings Hilton Hotels closer in-line with other properties Hilton Worldwide operates. A spokesperson for Hilton Worldwide issues a statement on the decision:

“We are making immediate changes to our global brand standards to eliminate adult video-on-demand entertainment in all our hotels worldwide. While the vast majority of our properties already do not offer this content today, this content will be phased out of all other hotels subject to the terms of their contracts.” They continue, “We believe in offering our guests a high degree of choice and control during their stays with us, including Wi-Fi on personal devices.  However, we have listened carefully to our customers and have determined that adult video-on-demand entertainment is not in keeping with our company’s vision and goals moving forward.”

You may think this decision was made with some higher morality in mind or it was a way to eliminate porn or “obscene” material. This probably isn’t the case. We at porn.com see this as a natural progression based on available technology. More and more people travel with their own devices (tablets, laptops, smartphones) and with free Wi-Fi available at most hotel chains, it should be no surprise that most would use their own devices. It allows people to take advantage of the wide variety of XXX content available online and at a lower cost. Why would anyone order a single porn movie from VOD services when they could simply go to porn.com and view thousands of videos with no delay?

Technology brings change and this is the perfect example. With the invention of the telephone, people didn’t need to send telegrams any more. As more and more people use email, snail mail is becoming a ting of the past. Now that millions of people are connected online no matter where they are there simply isn’t a need for adult VOD services in hotels. This frankly is an opportunity for adult online services.

Interestingly enough, we can see the same pattern in a previous post we shared on the banning of porn mags at US Military Bases. In that case they found that military personnel simply stopped buying the magazines, so the decision was based completely on sales and demand. Similarly, it is obvious that from this Hilton Worldwide announcement is based more on evolving customer demand rather than censorship from Hilton Execs.

The future is awesome…now where’s my hoverboard?
