Porn Fans Hope This Bill Doesn’t Pass

Porn is great. The way things are right now, you can watch smut on any device you have, any time you want, pretty much. Sure if you’re at work or hanging out with the fam, you might want to step into a private room to get your fix, but you have anything you want at your fingertips. However, there is a new law that legislators from 12 states are backing that seeks to help the government make some cash off of our love of porn. Their idea is that anytime people buy a new computer, tablet or smartphone, all porn would be completely blocked from it. The only way you could access it would be to pay a tax – to the government. Sure, the tax would only be $20 but why block people from what little pleasure they have?

Most sane people who read this bill say “Hey! What about the first amendment?” And most lawyers think that the bill wouldn’t stand up to a court hearing. People who are free speech advocates say this law would be a dangerous gateway for the government to block access to sites that have to do with any topic that is a little bit taboo, like women’s health issues or sites about weapons. The important thing to note is that while porn fans are definitely against this bill, some of the free speech advocates who aren’t in favor of the bill aren’t really all that into porn, but they are certainly into freedom because it’s the American way.

This is part of a whole slew of bills and things that states have put on the table to curb people’s porn consumption. Some of these legislators are under the impression that watching porn can be bad for you, but pretty much any scientific study ever done on the effects of watching porn, say that it is good for you. It lowers your blood pressure, it even helps you get laid in real life, and it makes you happy! What more could you ask for. Anyways, as a major porn fan I definitely hope that this bill doesn’t pass.

The other thing to keep in mind about silly law proposals like this is that the porn industry itself will be greatly affected. In the US, that would be pretty harsh for towns like Los Angeles and Tampa where a great number of people rely on the porn biz for their lives. This is not just pornstars but office assistants, production assistants, and camera operators who keep those towns running! Porn is good for everyone and everyone should be able to access it when they want, without having to pay a tax.
