It’s was no secret that for years, if you grew up watching Saturday Night Live there was a major drought period after the wave of the 90’s cast had left for Hollywood. Will Ferrell could not hold the show together and carry it back to ratings galore, as each week, it seemed as though another colleague had dropped off the cast one by one.
Once Ferrell finally left, the show could then rebuild. Bringing up an amazing group of characters and writers was Lorne’s idea as always, but would they get their respect? Were people going to watch? How would people respond?
Well let’s just say, 2014 is the year of The Women of SNL. They are bringing it each week, and delivering some of the funniest content you could imagine. With great male cast members, the likes of which we have not seen since the early-mid-90’s, these women are backing it up with every sketch possible.
Ever since Gilda, Lorraine, and Jane “knocked up” SNL in the women’s department of the 70’s, throughout the years they had some great female cast members as Molly Shannon, Cheri Oteri, and others ushered in the 90’s era of SNL. Peaking at its height for ratings and female cast members with Tina Fey, Mya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, and of course Kristen Wig. But never has there been such consistant talent on a single show such as Saturday Night Live. The women today, are going to make the women of SNL alumni so proud. Just check out these sketches, followed by the pictures.
2014 Women of SNL include: Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Noël Wells, Nasim Pedrad, Aidy Bryant, and Sasheer Zamata.
